The Details
Geographic Scope
Primary services are provided within Maryland, with deep familiarity with state systems, courts, programming, and professional standards. Lisa is also available for select engagements outside of Maryland, depending on case needs and scope.

Standard Rates* (Maryland-Based Expert Witness)
An up-front retainer is required. To keep workflow clean and predictable, replenishment is required when the balance is below the total of three billable hours per the established fee agreement. Work pauses if the retainer is not maintained. All work is billed against the prepaid fee. Work charges are applied as soon as work begins and are not refundable. Any unused balance of the retainer that does not have billable work applied will be refunded to the payee. Reduced rates for pro se cases and those with pro bono, State, or Public Defender representation will require scope definition and agreement.
Hourly Consultation and Document Preparation & Review:
Standard: $350/hour
Pro se, Pro bono representation, or State/Public Defender: $175/hour (with strict scope agreement)
Initial Retainer*:
Standard: $5,000, with replenishment required when balance is at or below $1,050
Pro se, Pro bono representation, or State/Public Defender: $2,000, with replenishment required when balance is at or below $525
Trial Appearance Retainer
If the expert is required to remain available but is not called to testify, standby time may be billed at up to the full daily rate. Rescheduled appearances are subject to availability and may require a new reservation fee. Retainers are paid at least 7 days in advance of held date(s). In the event of trial cancellation or reschedule, 75% of the retainer will be refunded if more than 14 days’ notice is provided. If 7 to 13 days’ notice of cancellation is provided 50% of the retainer is refunded and 25% is refunded with 3 to 6 days’ notice. No refund is issued with less than 72 hours of notice.
Standard: $2,500/day
Pro se, Pro bono representation, or State/Public Defender: $1,250
* These prices are not quotes. We reserve the right to make adjustments to any of these rates based on context of the case, including but not limited to waiving fees or charging a higher rate for complex cases involving high-conflict custody disputes or extensive document review, and those most likely to proceed to trial.
Travel and other costs are assessed on a case-by-base basis.
